Marcegaglia for the world’s largest solar concentration plant

Marcegaglia contributes to the construction of the largest single site CSP(Concentrating Solar Power) plant in the world.

This is the Noor Energy 1 Project, the fourth phase of development of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar park in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The project, with a total cost of $3.9 billion, includes 700 MW from CSP technologies and 250 MW of photovoltaic power generation. Once completed, it will provide clean energy to more than 320,000 homes in Dubai, reducing carbon emissions by 1.6 million tons per year.

Developed by Acwa Power in close cooperation with DEWA (Dubai Electricity & Water Authority), Shanghai Electric Group Corporation as EPC and Abengoa Energía as solar field technology provider, the system will use Rioglass Solar tempered mirror and solar receiver technologies.

Through trader Metaltubi (Eusider group), Marcegaglia supplies a share of the 6,000 tons of stainless steel tubes used to make the plant’s collectors.

The tubes are processed and coated with 3 ceramic layers, then placed inside larger glass tubes. Inside the stainless steel tubes flows oil heated by the parabolic troughs, which, once reached the temperature of 380 °C, reaches the steam generators, accumulating energy.

Thanks to the experience acquired in the Noor 1 CSP thermodynamic solar power complex in Ouarzazate (Morocco) and in the Kathu Solar Park CSP thermal energy power plant, located near Kathu (Northern Cape, South Africa), Marcegaglia confirms itself as a world-class partner for the hydraulic sector.
